It Is Approaching

That dreaded date for many Moms. Or maybe just me. I am not excited for the month come when I say good bye to my cuddly little first born baby and enter into toddlerdom. Don’t get me wrong I am grateful beyond words to have a healthy, happy and joyous little one growing in leaps and bounds everyday. It is not that. It is that with everyday that pass he slides farther from my ability to relate to him and closer into the “maleverse”. Only approaching one year and he actually giggles at his own burps? Oh how I know what the years ahead of me hold. Challenges in relating to his quirky maleness and struggles teaching him how to princely admire the fairer sex.

My husband eagerly bids his time. The days of a lifelong playmate approach. He already smiles coolly as we pass the sporting section at Target. With each shortened nursing session and every wiggle to climb from my lap I am reminded how quickly it goes.

BABIES DON’T KEEP

Mother, oh Mother,

come shake out your cloth,

empty the dustpan,

poison the moth,

hang out the washing

and butter the bread,

sew on a button and make up a bed.

Where is the mother whose house

is so shocking?

She’s up in the nursery,

blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little

Boy Blue (lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

Dishes are waiting and bills are past due

(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).

The shopping’s not done

and there’s nothing for stew

and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo

but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.

Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?

(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing

will wait till tomorrow,

for Children grow up,

as I’ve learned to my sorrow.

So quiet down, cobwebs.

Dust go to sleep.

I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep……

One Week 30 Minutes a Day Spring Cleaning Plan

As promised here is my week long plan to whip your home into tip top shape. This plan can be done in 30 minutes stretches each day. Perfect for the over scheduled and hectic homemaker.

Let’s begin!

Day One:

Always start with the most difficult task. In my home that is dust. Start by tackling the most humid places in your home, the bathrooms. Dust the light fixtures, top of the shower rod or door and all remaining fixtures that never get seen. Max time 10 minutes.

Dust door frames and window frames
Time 10 minutes.

Vacuum! Get that dust up and out by running a vacuum over said areas.
10 minutes.
Relax done with day one!

Day Two

Interior windows. Get to washing! After washing the windows run a rag over the window jambs and sills to eliminate nasty critter collections from seasons past or any other debris.

When this task is completed use a rag and some dish soap to clear door jambs and sills of caked on mud.
Time 30 minutes.
Starting to look good! Great job.

Day Three:

The kitchen. Break out a clean clothe, some soap or polish and get to work washing those cabinet faces. This area also gets extremely humid when cooking and many unseen things can stick to the structures. Depending on the size of your kitchen this could take 20 – 30 minutes. Next wash back splashes and fridge sides.
Good job!

Day Four:
Dust all remaining areas. Wipe down picture frames, light switches and doors.
Max time 20 minutes.

Vacuum! It is important to remove all that dust you stirred up properly!
Max time 10 minutes.

Day Five:
Wash floors. Some people will take longer than 30 minutes on this task depending on house size.

Day Six:
Donation day one. Purge closets and dressers of unwanted clothing.

Day Seven:
Donation day continued.

Congratulations you have a clean home!

One Week One Hour A Day Spring Cleaning Plan

This is the one week spring cleaning plan for those that have a need for some serious cleaning. Or for those that wish to give more time to organizing!
This plan is accomplished in an hour a day!
Let’s Begin:

Day One:

Clean those bathrooms. This is my least favorite activity so I always start with it. Dust the fixtures, wash the mirrors, and wipe down the walls. Spray cleaner on the sink, bath and toilet. Spray the next bathroom and return to wipe them down after a few minutes soak. Last sweep and swifter the floor. Wash any rugs and seat covers.
I have three restrooms and when done thoroughly this task can take an hour. If I have leftover time I will clean under the sink (eep)!

Great job!

Day Two:
The kitchen. Wash all cabinet faces, wipe down walls, and counter tops. Pay extra attention to areas rarely wiped like back splashes and counter ledges when they meet the wall. Wash the floors throughly.
Great job on day two!

Day Three:

Dusting (you knew it was coming)! Dust the highest to lowest areas. Usually starting with door and window frames to shelves, pictures and then baseboards.

After this task is done vacuum throughly.

Yay it looks so clean in here!

Day Four:

Vacuum again and then wash floor throughly. Start with the top level then stairs to bottom floor.
This is big job in my house when not kept up with.

Great job.

Day Five:

Organize under the sinks bathroom and kitchen. We know how messy these can get so take a trash bag with you.

Day Six:

Wash windows both indoor and out.

Day Seven:

Donation day one. Clean closets and dressers of all clothing that has not been used in 9 months to a year.

Relax and enjoy your surroundings!

Top Five Ways to Save Money Without Leaving the House

There is so much good advice about saving while spending and cutting down needs but did you know you can eliminate spending without ever leaving the house? These are some common sense and practical ways I am stretching my dollars.

1. Clean-I can hear the groans already but by keeping things tidy you eliminate needless wear. Toys that are left out get stepped on and broken. Clothes that sit in the hamper are never utilized and drawers full of junk have absolutely no purpose. By cleaning on a regular basis you can stop double purchases, replacing harmed goods and unnecessary waste. For a great start check out my 3 day spring cleaning guide!

2. Put that away!- don’t put things down put them away! You are probably saying “ugh more cleaning!” but when things are placed in the community dump spot (kitchen table maybe?) they have a location and a person is much less likely to utilize them. Coupons cut and left on the table or counter are not saving you any money, food put in the pantry anywhere will not be part of a planned out menu.

3. Use what you have- maybe once a month scour the back of your cabinets for meal ideas. That leftover pasta or rice, those leftover beans from a meal last week can be made into a great meal. Utilize sites like allrecipes.com to find recipes based off your ingredient list!

4. Minimize you routine- this is against the popular belief in society today but a lot of consumerism is unneeded. If you struggle with your routine go back to basics. Four kinds of lotion may not be needed. Maybe your wardrobe can be simplified or your kitchen supplies.

5. Do some things yourself- most of my little ones monthly photos were done by my husband and I. We would make a day out of dressing our baby and snapping photos. Maybe you have a different skill that can save you money. Such as vegetable gardening or landscaping.

With a little creativity you can maximize your money saving skills!

Spring Cleaning How-to 3 Day Plan

As promised here is the step by step plan to get your house from “just okay” to gleaming in a 3 day plan.

Many of you are probably saying “Why would anyone need a plan for cleaning?” but for some cleaning can be overwhelming. Especially with children. You are busy all day picking up and setting down things to attempt to stay organized and at the end of the day have no idea how the house got so messy. “I was busy cleaning all day but see no progress!” If that is you WELCOME to hope. In a few hours a day you can have more organized spaces and dust free surroundings.

What if you do not have a long weekend to utilize a few hours a day? That is fine, next I will set up a one week cleaning plan that can help the time strapped person in all of us.

Let us begin the 3 day plan!

This plan if for the person that cleans daily. They have limited clutter and a long weekend to get all the nooks and crannies squared away.

If you struggle with where to start and how to finish this can help you. Included is a check off list. Lists help me so much, in not only seeing how far I have come but also seeing how far I have to go.

Day one: As with every cleaning project you should always work from top down. So on day one I focused on dusting those unseen, rarely touched parts of the home that one skips in their daily routine. Start with ceiling fans, oh the awfulness, but seriously these sticky guys can get pretty dirty. Next is window frames. This is not something you think of in your normal dusting habit cause, unless you are 8 feet tall, no one notices them. Next picture frames, probably cleaned more often but give these a once over, and bathroom fixtures. The medicine cabinet, shower rod, and light above the sink can attract major ick in the humid bathroom. Then hit up all the regular places. Shelfs, lamps and lights. My house is two stories with three bedrooms and I finished this chore in less than an hour. Could take you longer or less time depending on home size and dust accumulation.

Next is windows and glass! Once way to cut down on time here is to saturate a paper towel with solution and wipe the window then follow with a dry cloth. I usually only do the inside of my windows at this point. Also wipe down all picture frames. This is a huge job in my house! We love our pictures and have them in every room so this chore alone can take upwards of an hour.

Vacuum at the end of your days chores to prevent immediate build up again and when doing so vacuum ceiling corners and seams.

You are done with day one!

Day two:

Kitchen cabinets. I have to say I love this chore because it makes everything look so new. I usually use a bucket, rag, some soapy water and a dry clothe that is it. Sometimes I will need something tougher and break out the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It takes grease splatters of the back splash easily. Again start at the top and wash each cabinet. I am always surprised at how much dirt accumulates on these surfaces though they are constantly exposed to heat and steam that allow for that filth to stick.

Bathroom cabinets. The same process.

At the end of chores make sure to Swiffer or mop the kitchen and bathroom floor.

These chores can take around two hours, again depending on the size of your home.

Done with day two.

Day three:

Donation day. Purge, purge and purge those areas you know need it. Your closet, dresser or storage area.  I do this activity several times a year and either line up items for donation or sale. If you have not used something in six months (with exceptions for recreation items, holiday, server wares, etc) give it a toss. I have held onto fashions I have not worn in years before on the hopes that I will get some use out of them before finally realizing someone probably would get use of them if I let them go.This could take all day or an hour depending on your stuff accumulation.

Time left? Great! Wash the outside windows.

Congratulations you are done.

Next I will be sharing my one week plan for those that want more or need more time to space out the cleaning.
