Pin it Tuesday- Hair Bow Holders

This week I will be showing a craft idea I came across on Pinterest here. I thought that is just the cutest idea! But $15 plus shipping …hmm bet I could make it cheaper.

Wooden block $1.33
Letter $1.49 with 30% off =$1.05
Paint and ribbon I had on hand
Felt 4 sheets for $1.00 I used less than three sheets for both holders combined
Felt owl template found here
And two gems for eyes I had lying around from a hair bow project.
Total for two- $5.76!

I adore the way both of these turned out, and added some bows to send as well, and sent them out as gifts as part of my resolution to make every gift this year.

The instructions were simple and just made my way as I went.

I painted the letter and wooden block using acrylic craft paints then used my glue gun to attach them. I then used ribbon to make to holder strings and wall hanger and backed the ribbon with felt and hot glued that to the back of the wooden block. To give it a more finished look I cut felt to cover the back of the wood as well and glued it to cover the attachments.

Pin it Tuesday

Every Tuesday I hope to glean a new craft or idea from that beautiful site Pinterest and attempt it myself. I have already gone under way with quite a few projects. I cannot wait to share them all with you. Today I gathered an idea from The Suburban Mom to make a kick butt Fourth of July wreath for the front door found here. We are a military family so why not a year round patriot themed front door!

feb13 001I love it! Following the instructions on the originators site I found this to be a very easy craft. Had to add a few of my own embellishments as well and found that I used less yardage when wrapping it around the wreath as opposed to the tying portion. I bought all my supplies at hobby lobby when ribbon was on sale.

Wreath – $3.99

Red ribbon $6.99 for 30 yards on sale for half off $3.49

White ribbon $6.99 for 30 yards on sale for half off $3.49

Blue ribbon $3.99 per 5 yards on sale for half off x 3 $5.99

Wooden letter-$1.49 30% off $1.04

Total for craft -$18.00

Not bad for a customized wreath, that I love and that I can use year round!

Fourth of July Pretzel Snacks

Today was a great day of getting out of the house. We had a play date that ended in melt down city so when we came off to bed little one went to bed. I had an unusual amount of energy today though so decided to tackle this simple “recipe”.

Pretzel sticks Ingredients:

- Pretzel Rods

- White chocolate mmmm

- sprinkles

That is it yay.

You will also need wax paper and a baking sheet to set them on to chill.

1. Melt Chocolate in microwave 30 seconds for each square. Stir to smooth consistency.

2. Lick spoon.

3. Dip pretzel sticks in chocolate and let drip excess.

4. Sprinkle with super festive colors.

5. Lay on wax lined baking sheet and let harden in fridge. 30 minutes.

After they are hardened you can decorate. I used saran wrap and ribbon so they were easy to hand out.
Total time spent dipping, sprinkling, chilling and decorating about 2 hours. Total money spent around $9.00.

A Week of Fun Crafts.

Well this week was awesome for family memories. We had some friends visit our new duty station and spent some time relaxing and enjoying company. I finished out most of my goals as well so I feel accomplished!

Last Week

1. Try two (getting daring now) new recipes. Major let down. I didn’t spend much time honing my cooking skills this week but did spend some time baking.
2. Write my husband a love card for Valentine’s day.
3. Make mountains of brownies for Valentine’s day. Brownie mix I scored with a great coupon of course ;)
4. Make flash cards for My Sweets to start his home education.

5. Read “Healthy Sleep habits, Happy Child” ( I am almost half way through but have already picked up some great tips on healthy sleep training. If anyone is struggling with sleep training I would recommend this book…this far.)

6. Work on quilt.

7. Do craft with family from last week. Went overboard in this area and loved it!

We spent the weekend making salt dough foot prints. I still have to paint mine and tie a ribbon through it to hang on the wall. This was such a fun activity. I found the instructions here at the imagination tree blog. Awesome idea and couldn’t help but feel sentimental that my Sweets foot was almost to long for the dough. Next we used acrylic paints ( don’t recommend this medium but we have very limited craft store options here) to paint some dollar general wine glasses. I really enjoyed this activity and now whenever I use them I will think of my best friend who of course did a patriotic theme glass.

Finally we did our family tree with hand prints. This is my friend’s tree since my Sweets fell asleep and we were only as far as my husband and mine prints for the night. We also choose a lighter paper after seeing the green and yellow paint did not dry well on the green paper. The wording and tree were drawn with acrylic markers and this will be framed for the nursery. We found the idea for this here.
Every time we meet with the children in tow we will craft to remember the trip. I plan to visit her next in May and she will be hosting the crafting. I can not wait to see what we create. I hope you made some memories with the ones you love this week. I would love to hear of any crafts you might have done in the comments!

Have A Bad Memory?

Well then this craft is for you!

Homemade dry erase boards with a personal touch.

You will need :

-A picture frame of any size
- Paper of any pattern or color. I chose beach themes for now since it is 20 degrees out. A girl can dream can’t she?
-Dry erase maker.

That is it! Just pick a fun paper to fill your frame and you can change it with the seasons or your moods. I bought a pack of scrap book paper in nature themes recently so voila!
Now the hubby and I each have one to leave each other important information. As any married person will tell you communication is vital and has a tendency to get jumbled in the day to day. Just yesterday I used it to write down hunny’s to do list and he was at it checking off as he went. Also helps to cut down on scrap paper clutter!

Marriage, Teeth and Chicken

With a title like that this Wednesday is bound to be eventful.
My husband and I have been so blessed to receive this upcoming weekend together. We were given videos to watch in preparation for the event and they have me excited. Seems like a great rejuvenation in the Lord. Marriage is such a blessing when properly handled.
Another event in our house was the arrival of two more teeth and very limited sleep. Happy to report last night we were able to get back on track.
Tonight it is chicken and crafts! I started making the final pieces for my Sweets room. I found this idea on pinterest.com and can not find the post again. I can not take credit for the originality and am still looking for the post.
More pictures to follow completion after the family goes to bed.

The painted canvas but I think I’m going to darken it a bit. And the cut out leaves that I’m going to sting around my canvas to look like a textured tree. I think they will be the finishing pieces for My Sweets Nursery.
