Things ARE Returning to Normal

The husband is back from far away ville (for now). My little ones Birthday party went off without a hitch and our family has since left. The home is turned upside down from unending commotion but we enjoyed ourselves. Now back to real life. After the unending family time with my husband I am sad to return to routine. It is always “feast or famine” when it comes to time together, just like the civilian world I am sure, though our “famines” are quite a bit different.

This past bit we were able to hear the new little one’s heartbeat. It sounded strong! The baby also sounded very active. I could hear him or her swishing about as we listened. Such a blessing to have been able to hear the little one growing inside me. I feel renewed even through this worsening morning sickness and what I fear may be strep throat. Eep!

But onto the week ahead and my lingering goals!

I have decided after taking stock of my pantry that I could be making so many of the things I normally purchase. My goals this week will reflect a new sense of wanted domestic goodness.

Home Goals:

1. Go through pantry and outline things to make by hand.

2. Spend 2 hours “freezer cooking”.  My new devotion to weekly meal preparation!

3. Menu plan for the weeks ahead.

4. Have a baking session to replace at least 3 pantry staples with from scratch options.

Family Goals:

5. Start on my husband’s requested blanket

6. Mail Grandparents Birthday pictures

Mothering Goals:

7. Attempt to wean, again.

8. Find a Mommy and Me class locally.

Self Goals:

9. Read “Life on Planet Mom”

10. Make an Ultra Sound appointment!

Weekly Roundout

This week my whole world has been turned upside down by the way I have been feeling. I am delighted to say my husband and I are…

once more! So overjoyed with this news and so very tired. My normal pick me up caffeine has to be changed so sleeping longer hours these days is the only solution I have found. The days seem to slip by faster and faster now while I lie in my pregnancy coma. On top of this exciting time my dear husband has hit the road. My Sweets and I will be making the best of this Easter just us two. I am also gearing up for family to visit for a week and little one’s first birthday. My hands have been a bit full!

So here are my last goals and my progress I made this week:

1. Try one new recipe. Tried two actually. Pasta with brocolli and chicken sausage that can be found here. I am not too fond of the recipe since it was very bland. I would tweak it and use cubed mozzarella and Italian seasoning. Recipe number two was from (never home) maker for Frozen banana bites. They were yummy but very sweet. I may try with dark chocolate next time.

2. Exercise 30 minutes everyday. With the exception of the weekend I did!

3. Outline our Easter brunch menu.

4. Return to my neglected quilt.

5. Complete menu planning for the upcoming Birthday party!

6. Finish the Money Saving Mom’s Budget audiobook.

7. Update Mommy tummy challenge. See above ;)

8. Begin I Dare You by Joyce Meyer

I did a less than stellar job at these this past week. But as with anything we have to allow ourselves GRACE when need be.

Goals this week:

1. Clean out closet.

2. Organize DVD/video games in their new home.

3. Begin I Dare You by Joyce Meyer

4. Complete party planning.

5. Prepare menu for upcoming week.

6 . Complete freezer cooking session.

7. Compile home cookbook.

8. Create menu board.

9. Donate no longer used toys.

It is a new week and time to hit the ground running! What are your goals?

Weekly Roundout!

Had a great week with our little family!
Updated goals list from the week past:
1. Take My Sweets one year invitation pictures these came out amazing here is one of the pictures I picked for the invites (as well as the “cowboy” post below)

2. Finish bedroom wall art craft finished this and they came out very nice. I will take some pictures when we finish this room by mounting these.

3. Do the biweekly shopping done and done, this is a great tip for saving money. Limit trips to the store!

4. Attend Hubby’s work function so proud of my husband. He is now a “lifer”.

5. Try 2 new recipes. I have not been feeling top notch this week and my creative cooking has suffered. But tomorrow is a new day :)

6. Finish “Money Saving Mom’s Budget” audiobook! Almost done and I can’t wait to post my review.

In other news this week I also received some great freebies from Facebook sign ups. Companies will offer promotions for their products on Facebook, if you sign up you can get some great merchandise for FREE. (another great money saving tip)

20120317-213153.jpg
A full pack of apple cider k-cups from green mountain and tortilla stuffers from old el paseo (both no longer available).

My Sweets also decided this week that I am no longer allowed to feed him. He wants to do everything himself *tear* I am very proud of his new found independence.
Goals for the current week:

1. Find decorations for my sweets Birthday celebrations.

2. Post 5 day spring cleaning guide.

3. Take a picture a day for the week.

4. Try 2 new dinner recipes.

5. Find a cupcake recipe for my sweets party!

6. Update Mommy tummy challenge.

7. Walk 7 miles.

Goals help me focus my energy every week and add a level of production with each new goal.
How did you do on your list this week? What do you plan to achieve this coming week?

Weekly Roundout

1. Spring cleaning!!! Yay rejoice. I will be sharing my cleaning -totally do able plan- to help anyone else in need of motivation.

Done and done. Well almost we have yet to unpack 6 boxes in the garage. You know the stuff that is only need once a year? Plan to follow shortly!

2. Try 2 new recipes!

This cooking stuff is fun! I feel like I am growing in this area and I have started watching cooking shows. And actually follow along with the recipe not just drool over the end result and proceed to the kitchen for disappointment.

This week I made chicken stuffed shells. They were really good. My hubs said to add them to the rotation. That is a success. I found the recipe here. It made some adjustments. Instead of cheddar I doubled the mozzarella and added a bit of sour cream. Next time I make these I will add ricotta since the stuff was a little dry but still very tasty. I also used Italian seasoned bread crumbs and a jar of spaghetti sauce instead of tomato sauce. Before placing the shells in the baking dish I spread a little sauce to keep them from sticking as per a commenter tip and they turned out beautifully.

This is so cliché but I also made braised cucumbers. I blame the movie Julia and Julia for proclaiming they were a revelation. I mean a “revelation”? Who wouldn’t be curious. The recipe is so simple and I ate a whole plates worth after it was apparent my husband would not be willing to try them. He balked at me when I told him what they were and I secretly giggled. More for me!

3. Make hand print keep sakes for Grandparents.

Nope! I did not get to this but have some cute crafts lined up for hand prints next week.

4. Start party planning for my sweets one year!

I am beyond excited for this party. #1. Family is going to come for the celebration! #2. I have so many cute ideas already. #3. I will have made it to my nursing goal of 1 year. #4. I will be able to take pictures of My Sweets and his cousins! Okay enough, I could go on.

5. Relax. It is soon my Birthday and my dearest husband booked my a 4.5 hour spa retreat. I am very excited and so looking forward to some pampering.

This was so needed. I spent all day at the spa Sunday. Having my nails done, a facial and massage was so relaxing. I had quiet time and reflection and was eager to come home when all was said and done with my battery fully charged. My husband and I are not splurge-rs so this was a great treat and so appreciated.

My (very late) Weekly Roundout

1. Start job training this week. I will still be a stay at home Mom transitioning to a working at home Mom. Wish me luck.  I dove into the opportunities available to me at the base this week. And explored some options but after some prayerful talks with the hubby we decided it would not be for us. I am beyond joyful that we are financially able for me to continue being a stay at home Mom. But I feel compelled to stay open!

2. Try one new recipe this week. success! I made miniature meatloaf this week and they were delish.

Ingredients:

Ground Beef-1/2 lb

Herb Stuffing -I eyeballed it but I used about a 1 1/2 cups

Water- 1/2 Cup

salsa and mozzarella to top

Mix together all ingredients but the cheese and salsa.

Fill 12 count muffin pan 3/4 of the way. Make an indention in the meatloaf and spoon salsa. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 for 30 mins add cheese topping and bake 5 additional minutes.

The ultimate in comfort food.

3. Start my Mommy tummy makeover challenge. Done and done. I will be posting my progress every Friday. So far I feel really great so next week will be more intense.

4. Finish “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child”  The irony in not reading this book is when does a parent facing sleep challenges have a chance to read? Though we have finally been able to get my Sweets on an earlier bedtime. *Happy Dance* He is a true night owl but here is to hoping he is reformed.

5. Work on Quilt. I am going to finish this! I promise.–I lied–well maybe just delayed not lied.

This Week’s Goals:

1. Spring cleaning!!! Yay rejoice. I will be sharing my cleaning -totally do able plan- to help anyone else in need of motivation.

2. Try 2 new recipes!

3. Make hand print keep sakes for Grandparents.

4. Start party planning for my sweets one year!

5. Relax. It is soon my Birthday and my dearest husband booked my a 4.5 hour spa retreat. I am very excited and so looking forward to some pampering.

There are things to do and places to see…

2. Try one new recipe this week.

Since I am undertaking a big change in my schedule I will make less goals this week. Hopefully will find my rhythm really quickly. Here we go :)

A Week of Fun Crafts.

Well this week was awesome for family memories. We had some friends visit our new duty station and spent some time relaxing and enjoying company. I finished out most of my goals as well so I feel accomplished!

Last Week

1. Try two (getting daring now) new recipes. Major let down. I didn’t spend much time honing my cooking skills this week but did spend some time baking.
2. Write my husband a love card for Valentine’s day.
3. Make mountains of brownies for Valentine’s day. Brownie mix I scored with a great coupon of course ;)
4. Make flash cards for My Sweets to start his home education.

5. Read “Healthy Sleep habits, Happy Child” ( I am almost half way through but have already picked up some great tips on healthy sleep training. If anyone is struggling with sleep training I would recommend this book…this far.)

6. Work on quilt.

7. Do craft with family from last week. Went overboard in this area and loved it!
>

We spent the weekend making salt dough foot prints. I still have to paint mine and tie a ribbon through it to hang on the wall. This was such a fun activity. I found the instructions here at the imagination tree blog. Awesome idea and couldn’t help but feel sentimental that my Sweets foot was almost to long for the dough. Next we used acrylic paints ( don’t recommend this medium but we have very limited craft store options here) to paint some dollar general wine glasses. I really enjoyed this activity and now whenever I use them I will think of my best friend who of course did a patriotic theme glass.

Finally we did our family tree with hand prints. This is my friend’s tree since my Sweets fell asleep and we were only as far as my husband and mine prints for the night. We also choose a lighter paper after seeing the green and yellow paint did not dry well on the green paper. The wording and tree were drawn with acrylic markers and this will be framed for the nursery. We found the idea for this here.
Every time we meet with the children in tow we will craft to remember the trip. I plan to visit her next in May and she will be hosting the crafting. I can not wait to see what we create. I hope you made some memories with the ones you love this week. I would love to hear of any crafts you might have done in the comments!

Let’s Get to Work on This Week!

Goals for week starting February 12th:
1. Try two (getting daring now) new recipes.
2. Write my husband a love card for Valentine’s day.
3. Make mountains of brownies for Valentine’s day. Brownie mix I scored with a great coupon of course ;)
4. Make flash cards for My Sweets to start his home education.
5. Read “Healthy Sleep habits, Happy Child”

6. Work on quilt.

7. Do craft with family from last week.

Sunday Goal Review 2/5-2/11

I usually do this update on Sundays but we had a positively sniffly day of rest. This cold weather is getting us where it hurts! But I am feeling much better today after a rough start. Hubby not so much but that may be from the running in this weather and early morning. Poor guy he really is a trooper.

Here is my goals list from last week and my progress. Did you tackle your list? Would love to hear your progress below.

1. Deep clean this home for my friends that will be coming to visit next week. I am a cleaning champ, holla! Sorry just a little excited to have a pretty home again. Feels like we have finally settled into the day to day and are currently recovering normal.

2. Designate a place for things in my pantry. It looks “oh so purty” I have amassed a good stockpile ( not extreme couponers status, goodness no. But pretty and plenty all the same.)

3. Find some storage for the bedroom. Just ordered an awesome deal on a headboard to add space to our bedroom. We have a few more things to add and then I will take you on a tour!

4. Update our photo album! This is done for now.  I will never feel like it is fully updated though since everyday our little one is growing and changing * sad face *.

5. Try one new recipe. I did try two new recipes this week. First the recipe from allrecipes.com for broccoli casserole. Not a fan. It was a bit heavy for me and the smell wasn’t too pleasent. However I did try something new with chicken breasts that I thought (hubby nommed in sync) was yummy. I rubbed kosher salt, fresh black pepper and lemon juice on chicken breasts and placed in my steamer for 30 minutes. They were perfection. Not dry like I feared they might be!

6. Do this art project with my sweets. Nope did not have a chance to do this yet. But it is still on my to do list. I think I will be sweet to put it in his nursery as a reminder that no matter what we are always together.

New Goals for 2/5 and Old

So this past week I decided to refine my goal making. I am not making lists to accommodate all the things I truly hope to accomplish with my time so I decided to regroup.

What is my major one goal for the week, this week? Organization and refinement of this place. So here are the things I hope to accomplish to achieve that by this weeks end.

Goals:

1. Deep clean this home for my friends that will be coming to visit next week.

2. Designate a place for things in my pantry.

3. Find some storage for the bedroom.

4. Update our photo album!

5. Try one new recipe.

6. Do this art project with my sweets.

Old goals from last week:

1. Pack for this weekend’s marriage retreat. We have been on one before and loved it.
This retreat was a blast. Both the husband and I enjoyed ourselves.

2. Find a new highchair and find a good cause to donate the old one to. ( still searching since I am not willing to spend too much)

3. Clean out the baby’s closet.

4. Update coupon binder and locate best deals.

5. Send off some more cards this week.

6. Steam and freeze the produce for the baby.

7. Finish paintings for my Sweets room. First craft project of 2012. Pictures soon to follow.

8. Work on some quilting.

9. Take the baby to the park. (Hear that Mr. rain?)

10. Organize my days. Will post about it in more detail after I finish. (work in progress!)
