The First Weekend of Summer

It is here! The reason for floppy hats, indulgent ice cream desserts and Fourth of July themed foods. The family and I decided to venture out and find some great deals.

First is was an Amish Farm Stand with the most beautiful tomatoes I have seen. The hubs does not enjoy tomatoes, eep I know, so I bought an amazing onion. It must be the growing baby in me but I wholly, maybe a little too much, enjoyed the smell of this onion. I am planning on creating some rings Sunday night to go with burgers on the grill. This baby appreciates quality!

We also found an abundance of pies and breads that were calling to me but I held back. Once the gentleman told us of watermelon coming next week I knew we’d be back! My husband picked out some honey in his unending quest to find real good honey for his tea. Over the course of our marriage I have gotten quite the giggle out of the varieties of the sugary substance that have graced our home. So far no winners…here’s hoping.

So that was our big purchase at the stand. We also stopped by Walgreens for a great deal they are currently having on select Suave hair products. They are priced a $1.00 each and if you buy 2 you get $2.00 register rewards. So I paid $2.00 and tax for the original purchase of shampoo and used my coupon to get to more free. There was a limit of one reward. I also scored free polish with a $1.00 off coupon! So goes my adventures of living in simplicity.

Since my family and I have learned/continue to learn to cut spending and limit wasteful purchasing the weekends are all that sweeter. Peace is found in the simplicity of life now instead of the excess. It also does not hurt to indulge in a snow cone once in a while…now THAT’S living! :)

What I Bought Today…

In the interest of saving money here is another great deal I scored!

Went to Kroger for the first time ever (we have only lived here a few months so not familiar with them) since I received a $10 gift card from my newspaper company. Found out they

double any coupon $.50 and under so I scored some good deals. Now that I know how they work I will be back more.

Here is what I bought:

Quaker Quakes rice snacks on sale for $1.00 x 7 = $7.00

Steamfresh vegetables on sale $1.00 used (2)$.50 off of 1 coupons and (1)$.50 off 2 coupon (all doubled to $1.00)=4 for $1.00

Oranges $.74 a lb x 2.2lbs= $1.63

Jello $.79 x 2 used (1) $.50 off 1 coupon (doubled)= $.29 each

Snickers on sale 2/$1.00 used $1.50 off 2 coupon = $.50 profit ( for the neighbors kids on Easter)

Betty Crocker food coloring $3.85

Nuby No Spill sippy $1.99

Comfort Baby rice puffs 2/$3.00

Cranraisins on sale $1.50 used (1) $1.00 off 1 coupon = $.50

Originally $38.97 with sales and coupons $20.97 used $10.00 gift card =$10.97!

Remember it only saves you money if you buy things you actually use and need. Junk food and a lot of premade meals are not usually used in our house so my savings are not as impressive as someone who is willing to buy anything to save money. Just an example of how you can coupon with a different mindset.

Happy savings friends!

Coupons and Savings Galore

I have not shared one of my shopping trips in quite some time so fellow couponers here are some great deals I scored today.

Not all coupons are available in all areas and some are no longer available to print. Store prices also vary region to region so check with your area retailers.

This was my first Publix shopping trip and I really enjoyed it.

Trip #2 today – Walmart:

Purchase Schick Hydro Silk $5.97 used one $4.00 coupon found in last week’s inserts= $1.97

M & Ms $1.00 x 2 used $1.00 off 2 Mars candy coupon = $.50 each

Olay soap $2.57 used one $2.00 off one Olay product = $.57

$3.54 before tax $7.00 in savings!

And I stopped on the way home at Dollar General to check out if they had more detergent clearance from 2 weeks ago. They did I bought 2 Wisk 29 loads the were clearanced to $4 and used 2 x $2 coupons = $2 each 2 weeks ago and found a large stack of them still left so I bought one more today. I scored 3 of them for a total of $6.00. Not bad for a household essential.

I do not have a large stockpile via extreme couponers but have a well maintained deep freezer and pantry. I keep it organized and clutter free so if I do find a great deal I can jump on it. I also have a limited cleaning product supply and keep it well organized. Being organized is just another way I save money which is such a valuable skill when you are part of a military family!  Happy savings all!
